The world has witnessed a significant evolution in the manufacturing and large-scale production industries over the years. Metals, liquids, paper, synthetics, and other man-made items, sourced from numerous raw materials, have helped propel the development of civilization to its current state. And, in order to further mankind’s technological progress, a new realm of manufacturing—advanced materials—emerged. This led to the creation and discovery of many new, groundbreaking, versatile, and useful substances. Among these innovative inventions to have earned the moniker of “advanced material,” graphene is one of the most sought after and resourceful substances thus far.

Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms bound together in consecutively repeating patterns of hexagonal atomic structures and possesses many characteristics that make its application in the manufacturing of several equipment highly desirable for almost every industry. However, it is an expensive material and not easily accessible. This was an obstacle that STANDARD GRAPHENE, a South Korea-based advanced materials solutions provider, wanted to surpass. With the sole purpose of delivering the ingenuity and usefulness of the material to manufacturers internationally, the company is well-equipped to cater to this growing market need cost-effectively. “We have spent over 24 years working with carbon-based materials, which paved the way for our research and development toward creating high-quality graphene products by 2010, at the best prices,” adds Joung-Hoon Lee, founder and CEO of STANDARD GRAPHENE.

The company circumvents the market-wide challenge of manufacturing large amounts of graphene by producing graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) that are relatively much cheaper and of a higher quality than other competitors. STANDARD GRAPHENE also offers the ‘super material’: Super Graphite—another by-product of graphene— that has several special applications in water purification processes.

The world is still deliberating the physical applications of graphene, whereas STANDARD GRAPHENE is already leveraging the technology to help change the future

The company produces various levels, or grades, of graphene depending on a client’s specific needs. Owing to the material’s high electrical and heat conductivity, electron mobility, strength, flexibility, and surface area, its applicability in the automotive and aerospace industries proves to be extremely promising. “About three to four grams of graphene can cover an entire soccer field,” explains Lee.

To elucidate the benefits of STANDARD GRAPHENE’s GO and rGO products, Lee shares a case study of a large, American water purification system manufacturing company that cleans over 255,000 gallons of water on a daily basis. However, as a result of growing demands, a new system that increases the quantity and speed of water purification was required. At this juncture, STANDARD GRAPHENE’s graphene expertise helped the client design and implement a more efficient purification system that promises the desired throughput, while increasing quality as well. Having spent a considerable amount of time researching the advantages of this material, Lee and his team have developed several water-related solutions that aim to aid various countries in actively combating their water crises. “The world is still deliberating the physical applications of graphene, whereas STANDARD GRAPHENE is already leveraging the technology to help change the future,” expresses a passionate Lee.

Moving forward, the company intends to develop and provide a range of graphene-based products that appropriately reflect the revolutionary material’s absolute versatility. The company is also already penetrating the aviation and automotive industries with its products, helping manufacturers produce airplane components that are significantly lighter and stronger than conventional materials. Ranging from intricate water filter systems and light-weight, highly durable bicycles— as an example of real-world applicability—to high conductive electrical circuits and medical equipment, STANDARD GRAPHENE is gearing up to disrupt the advanced material marketplace in the years to come.
